Tuscany is one of the most romantic regions in Italy, and Florence, the birthplace of the rennasaince, is it’s capitol. Many people think of the rolling countryside when they think of Tuscany: quaint towns and villages like Chianti, Siena, and the charm of Southern Tuscany. Tuscany has long been treasured for it’s beautiful landscape and it’s fabulous olive oil and culinary traditions which have attracted tourists, chefs and romance for years. There is much to learn about tuscany and it’s rich culture and traditions, but we have provided some brief information on some of our favorites to get you started on your journey.
FLORENCE — The birthplace of the Rennaissance and the Italian Language, Florence was pivitol to the development of Italy and remains a cultural center to this day. Here you can view works of art by Leonardo, Michaelangelo and Botticelli. Stroll through palaces built in the impressive Medici style, wander down cobblestone streets to find a charming restaurant tucked away in a corner – the city is almost untouched by modern industry. You can almost feel the history and culture come alive in Florence.
LUCCA — Lucca is a historic town, still surrounded by beautiful walls built to protect it in the 1600’s. Inside those walls lies a treasure waitng to be discovered. Beautiful villas and gardens, upscale boutiques, midieval towers and impressive gothic archetecture. It’s a town with an old soul and a comsompolitan feel that speaks of elegance and romance.
CHIANTI — Chianti, often known for it’s wines and rolling hills, is another gem of the Tuscan region. The entire area is only about 30 miles north to south, and many vacationers rent cars to drive the famous Chianti Road and stop at wineries along the way. One of the most beautiful areas of italy, it’s the prefect setting for a romantic country wedding.
CORTONA — Cortona is home to romance, and is supposedly where Under the Tuscan Sun was written. It’s easy to see how someone could be inpsired to write surrounded by such beautiful landscape. Cortona was an Etruscan town that today holds many important remains: the outer walls, the majestic tombs of noble families and the latest discovery, the Melone II of Sodo, dating back to the 7th. Century BC. It’s a wonderful place to experience the romance of Tuscany while discovering the ancient history of Italy long ago.
